NORM CARLSON
Retired-Assistant Athletics Director - Communications

 Norm Carlson, a 1956 graduate of the University of Florida, returned to his alma mater as Sports Information
   Director in February 1963 as Sports Information Director and was given additional duties as Assistant Athletic
    Director/Communications in 1968.  He coordinates University of Florida football media relations, while also having
       duties involving campus, community and state relations.  He is also the sports information department's historian.

Following graduation from Florida, he worked as a sportswriter with the Atlanta Journal, (1956-59), and served as the
Sports Information Director at Auburn University from 1959-63. He served eight years on the NCAA public relations
committee, eight years on the Board of Directors of the American Football Writers Association and is a member of the
Hall of Fame of both the College Sports Information Directors and Citrus Bowl. He also served 12 years as executive
director of the Florida Sportswriters Association, (1964-1976), and was honored by the Florida Sportscasters Association
in 1977 as the person in the State of Florida who contributed the most to sports electronic journalism.  He was inducted
in 1995 into the UF Lettermen's Hall of Fame and the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, the only publicity person from the
state so honored. He was inducted into the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame in 2002. Carlson is a member of Florida Blue Key
and is the co-Author of the book, "Gators with Steve Spurrier," and executive producer of the video "Winning In The 90s"
 with Steve Spurrier.

He and his wife, Sylvia, have three children, son David and daughters Shannon and Misty and five children from
a previous marriage: daughters Donya and Kerri, sons Doug, David and Reese.  He has 11 grandchildren.
